About WDFA
The Witney and District Football Association was established in 1908 to provide local football competitions for men playing in the teams from Witney and surrounding villages, in West Oxfordshire. The Association accepts clubs from within a radius of 11 miles from Witney.
Back in 1908, the Association organised a single league which was won by Witney Cygnets. In 1925 a Second Division was added and was won that year by Langford.
A Senior Challenge Cup competition was launched in 1925 and was won in its first season by Witney Mills. In 1931, a Junior Challenge Cup was added to cater for teams outside the top league. The first Junior Challenge Cup winners were Bampton.
The Association restructured the leagues with the launch of the Premier League in 1948 which was won by Woodstock.
Many clubs formed reserve sides and in response to demand the Association formed a Third Division in 1951 (won by Eynsham Reserves) a Fourth Division in 1970 (won by Langford) and a Fifth Division (won by Ramsdon) in 1973.
The Association also sponsors the Fred Ford Memorial Cup and The Jack Busby Memorial Trophy (which caters for reserve sides).
Today the Witney and District Football Association has a membership of 59 teams playing in five leagues (Premier League, Division One, Division Two, Division Three and Division Four).
