Season Preview: Division Two
[ Premier League ] [ Division One ] [ Division Two ] [ Division Three ] [ Division Four ]
AC Finstock
Possibly last season's most enigmatic side, Finstock have moved to add consistency to their footballing pedigree and plan to push for the title this year. Dean and Craig Mays are back and Matt Claridge will don the gloves after the departure of, among others, Steve Cooper, Adam Trinder and Attila Kalman. Their new look side feel the sky is the limit this term.
Prediction: 3rd
One to watch: Craig Mays
Bampton Town Reserves
After battering through their first season, destroying everything in their path, Bampton seem to go from strength to strength. Having strengthened their first team, they are hopeful once again that their reserves can win promotion, with manager Chris Boot at the helm. Anything less will surely be a disappointment.
Prediction: Runners-up
One to watch: Wayne Bowles
Charlbury Town Reserves
Lucky to stay in the division following the league restructure, Charlbury may find this season's ultra-competitive Division 2 overwhelming. With only two or three departing, the new management team of Mark Deller and Gary Jones are hoping the bulk of last season's crop can battle through again. The experienced Rob Tudge has joined to shore up a previously leaky defence.
Prediction: 11th (Relegated)
One to watch: Ian Jarvis
Chippy Swifts
A growing threat as the years go by, this team of youngsters still lack experience in key areas to really challenge. Details are sketchy - if not non-existent - of signings and departures, but expect much of the old crew to be involved again. A mid-table finish will be an achievement in this tough division.
Prediction: 9th
One to watch: Warwick Thompkins
Combe
A fantastic side of youngsters at times, Combe suffered from inconsistency and big game nerves last season. They will be hoping the addition of the powerful Vinny Snell can make the difference along with the cultured Tim Wyatt, although talisman Patch Gardner will be missing for much of the year. With Chris Drinkwater re-installed as manager and David Snook left holding the baby hopes are high for a big season.
Prediction: 6th
One to watch: Tim Wyatt
Freeland Reserves
With their first team growing ever more powerful, the reserves have strengthened further this year and plan to go from treading water in mid-table to challenging for the title. The return of Nathan Langford and Rob Belcher from Combe, along with several key first-teamers dropping down could spell trouble for the other title contenders. Rob Panting is the man in charge and will expect the best from his tight-knit squad.
Prediction: Champions
One to watch: Andy James
Hanborough Reserves
Signings have been thin on the ground for the relegated side, but they have instead drawn fringe players from the first team and over-achievers from their A team. They aim to be promoted back to Division 1 this year, but the competition is extremely hot, and they will need excellent home form to keep up a challenge.
Prediction: 8th
One to watch: TBA
Southrop
With several experienced additions, the average age of Southrop's first team is said to be well over 25, although that figure may be closer to the average weight in stone. Their side is almost entirely intact from last year, having only lost Matt Reynolds to Fairford Town. With three prolific goal-scorers in Simon Williams, Shane Imms and Croatian Urim Fezjulahu, they will have top four in their sights.
Prediction: 4th
One to watch: Urim Fezjulahu
Spartan Rangers Reserves
Stuart Jackson and Dan Andrews are the key additions to Spartan Rangers Reserves, although Iain Harris is remaining tight-lipped to say the least about this season's prospects. Spartan are always a threat on home turf and should have been promoted from this division last year had they maintained their consistency.
Prediction: 5th
One to watch: Chris Baker
Tackley
Nothing coming out of this rather mysterious W & D side, perhaps because little will be changing. Their mixture of fast attackers and physical defensive play won several unlikely games last year, and in Chris Betreen they have one of the top young strikers in the area. Will probably settle for mid-table.
Prediction: 10th
One to watch: Ethan Penny
West Witney Reserves
Likely to be a tougher side than last season's, ravaged as they were by a first team regularly short on numbers. Darren and Gavin Aston have joined the party and the team looks strong in most areas. Gary Kelly is the new man in charge and will feel that his side belong in Division One.
Prediction: 7th
One to watch: Steve Blantz
Wootton Sports
Hopes are not high despite some encouraging performances last season from Leigh and Kevin Grant's outfit. The team with arguably the league's finest pitch are expecting to be hammered once or twice, but it won't be for lack of effort with Leigh Grant leading from the back.
Prediction: Bottom (Relegated)
One to watch: Dave Gubbins
