Oxfordshire Junior Shield
Two Rivers 0 - 4 AC Finstock
It was Two Rivers first game at their new home, Monahan Way, which they would hope to make a fortress. It was far from that with a lacklustre performance in a 4-0 defeat to AC Finstock of Division Two in the Junior Shield.
There were changes in the Rivers squad with Peter Borchmann & Bartek Lachwicz not available as they were in the mother land, which presented Peter Hanley with a start a left back. For the first 15-20 minutes Rivers held the visitors at bay, limiting them to a couple of shots from out side of the box, whilst Rivers had a couple of half chances, the best of which saw Krzysztof loose out on a possible one on one with the keeper due to hesitancy on his part in a misfiring performance from the striker.
Finstock seemed to target young Peter playing cross field balls from left to right & their first goal came from one of these crosses thanks to a school boy error from Lukasz where he failed to attack the ball, instead letting it bounce which gave the Finstock striker the opportunity he needed to put his team 1 up.
If that were not bad enough, Finstock must have thought Christmas had come early as they were gifted another silly goal. This time Rad on the edge of his own box was caught in two minds whether to head the ball clear or let it drop & volley it away. He choose the latter, which Finstock took full advantage of to go 2 up.
Rivers were loosing the individual battles, especially in midfield, as the two central midfielders for Finstock were running the show. To top off a poor first half Rivers conceded a third goal.
A change of formation at half time going to a 3-5-2 saw little Lukasz come off & Tom Radburn go on to try to help win the battle in the middle of the park. Rivers did perform marginally better in the second half, but Finstock were still over running the midfield & creating chances, but they could not hit the target.
There were cries from the side lines of "what a plonker" as Dave seemed to carry the ball across his own goal line, only for it not to be given. Other changes saw Andy Jackson make is Rivers debut & Dale Rainbow return from injury. No one could be faulted for the 4th goal as it was a cross intended for the 2 players on the back stick which went in.
Rivers should be hurt by this performance, especially based on the previous performances this season. With returning players from holidays & other players nearing a return or making their return from injury, players are going to have to start playing for their shirts!
Come on Rivers, let's put it right in the next game with a win!!!
